Neo Basic B5700 N

Talk about changing the landscape! This offering by the computer manufacturer Neo, is the complete realization of their vision of bringing technology a step closer to the people.

Sporting the latest, 2nd Generation Intel Core i7-2630QM which rates at 2GHz per core, this ‘entry-level’ model comes in at an unprecedented price of 31k, several netbooks actually cost more than this! And while it does not bring about all the latest features you’d expect from a top of the line device, it does come with the following features: HDMI Connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, and eSATA connection. The Windows Experience Index lands at a measly 4.9 brought down by the Aero performance rating.

I got my hands on a working display unit at Compex and it does look very similar to how much it costs. The keyboard was nothing special, the finish seemed like it was made of some brittle plastic material and it was filled with horizontal lines that looked to have been printed by an ink jet printer, the control buttons in line with the power button were made up of holes that didn’t light up (now I didn’t try pushing them so I may be mistaken here), the screen was also washed out and very bright. What is making me reconsider this however is the fact that Lenovo also has a Sandy Bridge i7 rig out called the v470 which is retailing at close to 60k, and frankly there isn’t much difference between the two except for the HDD, operating system, keyboard, body and layout of the side ports.

All I need to do now is research on how much CUDA affects the procedures I want to do, because if the current software doesn’t use that, then there wouldn’t be a point to taking home a rig much more expensive than this one, especially since the 2nd Gen Intel Cores have within them integrated HD graphics. The exciting start of the second quarter is upon us, it will be an exciting time when all of the major manufacturers have released their Sandy Bridge notebooks. For now, this current minimum of 31k for an i7 notebook is a pretty sweet deal.

  • This items chipset was affected by the recall. Neo is not disclosing the thing pero i bought it, wala pa akong nararanasang issue pero it will build and show up someday.

    • Let us hope it doesn’t hehe, so part pala yan nung first series na nabalitang narecall, if something comes up please do comment again so future buyers will be informed, if its the chipset then it may manifest as a minor loss of functionality within the hardware. Thank you for the heads up!
