A few weeks ago at the IFA the photographic landscape is being revolutionized by the WD My Passport Wireless Hard Drive with its built in card reader that has an auto backup function, while that may be functional and all the unit with me sports a completely different purpose – that of the aesthetic.
MyPassport Ultras come in an assortment of colors and capacities and while that may be useful for remembering which hard drive contains what type of files, only a few of those you’d actually want on top of your desk as an accessory to behold… enter the Ultra Metal Edition!
This incredibly sleek number comes with an aluminum frame that wraps around the entire face of the drive exterior – it literally is what being a premium material is all about. Heck even the blue box has this metallic sheen to it and would stand out among all the other packaging WD has put forth whatever display configuration they might be in.
Other than the looks, the drive seems to come pretty standard with nothing special about the cable included (was half expecting a copper plated one or something). Of course we won’t know unless we opened it up but they might have put something new inside this shiny enclosure… it does say ‘premium storage’ in the box front so might be a more resilient and longer wearing version amongst their plethora of drives. Inside is a 2 TB drive that should be expected to perform as efficiently as possible.
WD constantly puts out some new spin onto the proverbial hard drive and it is always very fun and refreshing to see… even more so with eye-candy like this WD My Passport Ultra Metal Edition… an instant upgrade towards premium within any computer ecosystem!
Update! – There are three colors to this edition and one of them (the golden one) is their 10th Anniversary Limited Edition model!!! The drives retail for Php 4,590 for the 1TB and Php 7,590 for the 2TB variant. If you’re looking for a drive at the moment, do keep an eye out for these!
