The Coby Kyros Mini

Ever since I saw this being sold about a little over a month ago, I’ve been curious about how it looks and seeing as it was always in the box on displays it remained quite the mystery until tonight that is.

This is the form of the Coby Kyros Mini which retails normally for 3.5k, the rest of the price there is already profit I’d say. It is a 4.3″ tablet device without GSM capabilities. It runs on Android ICS and is powered by a 1GHz Allwinner A10 Chip with 4GBs of internal memory and 512mb RAM. It supports external microSD expansion and has a VGA camera up front as well as USB and HDMI connections. The important thing to take note of is that the screen resolution is a mere 480×272… pretty small on a screen of such size… this limitation will certainly affect the number of applications that would run properly on the device.

Looking at it reminds me of a game and watch which was the most advanced form of portable gaming way back when.

The thickness of the bezel all around the screen differ over most all of the manufacturers, thinner perceived to be better more often than not. While the Kyros Mini is certainly a promising media player, putting out a little more cash might actually net you a phone already with a better screen from one of the local manufacturers/importers. Gaming and entertainment certainly has come a long way but the simplicity and appeal of the materials and construction of the game and watch will never fade.
